Haun Vision

Our vision is to empower our students to reach their highest potential so they can contribute to an ever-changing world.
History of Haun Elementary

Bettye Lynn Spence was born Feb. 25, 1934, in Van Alstyne, Texas, to Harold Knox Spence and Helen Elizabeth Taylor Spence. She graduated as valedictorian from Tom Bean High School in May 1951 and attended the University of North Texas, the University of Texas at Dallas and other area colleges.
She married William Howard Haun on Nov. 18, 1951, in the Little Chapel in the Woods on the campus of Texas Woman’s University in Denton. The Hauns moved to Plano in 1954, where they raised two children. She has five grandchildren.
Bettye began her career in Plano Public Schools in 1957 as the district’s first secretary, hired by Superintendent E.A. Sigler. She later served as school board secretary and administrative assistant until her retirement in 1996.
Bettye and Howard live on a 120-acre ranch in Grayson County. She volunteers with the Heritage Farmstead as a school docent and with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children) in Grayson County. Her hobbies, besides spending time with her grandchildren, include genealogy, reading, traveling, hiking and cooking.
Her years of dedicated service helped shape Plano ISD and continue to inspire the students and staff who walk the halls today.
Husky Promise
When we care about each other and our classroom, we share what we have, listen carefully, help each other learn, work hard and have fun together. We understand that everyone makes mistakes, we stand up for ourselves and others, and when someone asks us to stop, we stop. In our classroom and school we do not stand by when someone is being picked on. We help each other. This is who we are even when no one is watching.
